Marriage: A Drive, not a Destination

It’s only today that I realized how wrong I was. How far my perceptions about marriage were from reality thing. What I considered to be the end of all worries, were nothing but things even my sister and mother (God rest her soul in peace) did for me for ages. In reality, a marriage is a roller coaster moving along serpentine iron tracks at break-neck speeds that will not hesitate to throw you off if you loose concentration even for a second, unless your spouse lends a hand to help you hang on.

With just a few hours to go before our first wedding anniversary, I can’t help feel frightened, but happy at the the year gone by and the zillion that lie ahead. Frightened because God threw one challenge after the other at me to test my mettle. But each evening brought supreme pleasure of having scraped through. As a bachelor, I had often made the blunder of taking survival for granted, I never did appreciate what I had. It was the sudden demise of my mother that made me pause and take a second look at life.

In another two hours, Tina and I will begin the second year of marriage. Thankfully, we have been through a lot that has changed how we treated life. But at the same time, we are not complacent, there is a long way to go, many hurdles to cross. We pray to God that may He give us the courage to live out our lives as a sincere, hard working, loving, and smiling couple.

Well, as we are away from our loved ones, let me be the first to congratulate us:

A Very Happy Wedding Anniversary to Tina and Manu!
